Every Railing Tells a Story About the Home Behind It
There’s a moment on every railing project where the glass goes in and the homeowner sees their view for the first time without anything blocking it. No wood pickets cutting across the lake. No metal bars framing the mountains into little rectangles. Just glass, space, and everything the Okanagan has to offer.
That moment is why we do this work.
But getting there involves more than picking a glass thickness and scheduling an install date. Every property is different. Slope, elevation, wind exposure, architectural style, existing deck structure, municipal code requirements. The best railing projects happen when the contractor understands all of these variables before a single post is set.
At Legacy Glass Railings, we’ve been navigating these variables across the Okanagan since 2018. Some projects are straightforward. Others push our fabrication and engineering capabilities. All of them teach us something that makes the next installation better.
Here are five projects from our portfolio that show what thoughtful railing design and precise execution look like in practice. If any of these feel similar to what you’re planning, let’s talk about your project.
Key Takeaways:
- Glass railing projects in the Okanagan vary dramatically based on property type, elevation, and architectural complexity
- Multi-family developments require large-scale coordination that tests a contractor’s fabrication capacity and timeline discipline
- Residential projects on hillside or lakefront lots demand precise code compliance at varying elevations
- Combining glass and aluminum picket systems on a single property creates both aesthetic variety and cost efficiency
- In-house fabrication allows real-time adjustments that outsourced manufacturing simply cannot match
The Rise Where Privacy Glass Meets Glenmore Road
Location: Glenmore Road, Kelowna System: 42-inch fascia-mounted glass with 5mm privacy glass panels, plus 42-inch aluminum picket sections with 5 self-closing gates
The Rise sits prominently along one of Kelowna’s busiest corridors. The challenge wasn’t just installing beautiful railings. It was solving two competing needs on a single property: unobstructed views on the private side, and complete privacy screening along the Glenmore Road frontage.
We designed a dual-system approach. The residential-facing elevations received clear 5mm glass in a fascia-mounted aluminum frame, keeping the lake and mountain views completely open. The road-facing perimeter received privacy glass panels that block sightlines from the street without sacrificing natural light.
Along Glenmore Road itself, we installed over 42 inches of aluminum picket railing with five integrated gates, each fitted with self-closing hinges for security and code compliance. The gates needed to handle daily use without sagging or binding, which meant precision fabrication on every hinge point and frame joint.
The result is a property that feels expansive and open from the inside while presenting a polished, secure boundary to the public side. It’s the kind of solution that only works when the railing contractor understands the property as a whole, not just the individual sections.
West 61, 2,500 Lineal Feet Across Five Buildings
Location: West Kelowna System: 42-inch fascia-mounted glass with 5mm panels, plus 2,500+ lineal feet of aluminum picket railings on retaining walls, balconies, and corridors
West 61 is the largest project in our portfolio and the one that proved our fabrication facility could handle true production-scale volume without compromising quality or timeline.
Five buildings. Residential balconies on every unit. Retaining wall railings wrapping the perimeter. Shared corridor railings connecting structures. Over 2,500 lineal feet of aluminum picket railing alone, plus glass systems on the balcony elevations.
The coordination challenge was enormous. Every building had slightly different dimensions. Retaining walls followed the natural grade of the West Kelowna terrain, meaning no two sections were the same length or angle. Balcony fascia mounting required structural verification on every floor.
Our in-house fabrication capability was the difference-maker. Instead of ordering thousands of feet of pre-cut components from an external supplier and hoping they fit, we measured each section individually, fabricated at our Kelowna shop, and delivered in staged batches aligned with the construction schedule. When field conditions required adjustments, we made them in-house within days instead of waiting weeks for replacements.
The developer’s project manager told us afterward that our communication throughout the process was what made it work. In a project with this many moving parts, responsiveness isn’t a nice-to-have. It’s the difference between hitting the occupancy timeline and missing it.
Westside Road, A Lakefront Elevation Challenge
Location: Westside Road, West Kelowna System: Surface-mounted glass railing on a multi-level residential deck with elevation transitions
Westside Road properties are some of the most desirable addresses in West Kelowna. They’re also some of the most challenging to work on. The lots slope steeply toward Okanagan Lake, which means decks are often built on multiple levels with significant height differences between sections.
This particular project involved a residential deck that stepped down across three elevations. Each level had a different height above grade, which meant different BC Building Code guard height requirements applied to different sections of the same deck. The upper level required 42-inch guards. The lower terrace fell under the 36-inch threshold. The transition between levels needed careful detailing to maintain both code compliance and visual continuity.
We chose surface mounting for this project because the existing deck structure supported it cleanly, and it allowed the glass panels to sit slightly above the deck surface for drainage clearance, an important detail in the Okanagan’s freeze-thaw cycle where standing water at the base of a post can cause long-term damage.
The homeowner’s primary goal was simple: protect the view. Every design decision we made served that objective. The finished railing disappears into the landscape, and what you see from every level is Okanagan Lake, uninterrupted.
Willow Park, Multi-Family Precision on a Tight Timeline
Location: Kelowna System: 6-storey multi-family development with glass and picket railings across 5 residential floors and a common rooftop patio
Willow Park tested our ability to deliver consistent quality across a large-scale multi-family building within a construction timeline that didn’t have room for delays.
Built by Argus, this six-storey development includes five floors of residential units, each with balcony railings, plus a shared rooftop patio that required its own railing system with different aesthetic and structural specifications. The rooftop is exposed to higher wind loads than the lower floors, which influenced both the glass thickness selection and the post spacing.
Multi-family projects like Willow Park involve coordination with general contractors, other subtrades, and building inspectors. Our installation windows were scheduled around concrete pours, exterior cladding, and interior finishing. Missing a window doesn’t just delay our work. It delays the entire project.
We staged fabrication to deliver floor-by-floor, so each level’s railings arrived when that floor was ready for installation, not before (which creates site storage and damage risks) and not after (which holds up the next subtrade). This kind of sequencing only works when you control your own fabrication schedule, which we do.
One of the residents in a complex we worked on captured the experience simply: “Kaid and his crew were terrific to deal with on the installation. They came when they said they would, were flexible in their scheduling to meet our needs and went out of their way to ensure that we were completely satisfied.”
A Residential Deck in Lake Country: Simple, Clean, Exactly Right
Location: Lake Country, BC System: 10mm framed glass railing, fascia mounted, on a single-level residential deck
Not every project needs to be a five-building development to matter. Some of our most satisfying installations are straightforward residential decks where the homeowner simply wants the job done right, on time, and without headaches.
This Lake Country project was a single-level deck with approximately 45 lineal feet of railing perimeter. The homeowner chose 10mm framed glass with fascia mounting to maximize usable deck space. The colour-matched aluminum frame complemented the home’s exterior without competing with it.
From first measurement to final walkthrough, the project took less than two weeks, including fabrication time. No surprises. No scope changes. No callbacks.
The homeowner’s feedback echoed what we hear consistently on residential projects: “We really like the quality of the product as well as the craftsmanship. We wanted a streamlined look and DK delivered on time and on budget.”
That’s the standard. Whether it’s 45 lineal feet or 2,500, the process doesn’t change. Measure precisely. Fabricate in-house. Install code. Stand behind the work.

What These Five Projects Have in Common
Different locations. Different scales. Different challenges. But every one of these projects followed the same core process.
It starts with an on-site assessment where we understand not just the measurements but the property, the view, the architectural intent, and the code requirements. Then fabrication happens in-house at our Kelowna facility, where we control every tolerance. Installation is performed by our own crew, not subcontracted labour. And after the final walkthrough, we stay reachable.
That’s what Legacy Glass Railings has built since Dax and Kaid started this company. A process that scales from a Lake Country deck to a six-storey Kelowna development without losing the precision or the personal accountability.
If you’ve got a railing project taking shape in your mind, we’d like to hear about it.

Does Legacy Glass Railings handle both residential and commercial projects?
Absolutely. Our portfolio spans single-family residential decks, multi-storey balconies, multi-family developments, and commercial properties. The same measurement, fabrication, and installation process applies regardless of project scale, which ensures consistent quality across every job.
How does Legacy Glass Railings handle projects on sloped Okanagan lots?
Sloped lots require section-by-section measurement because guard height requirements under BC Building Code change based on the elevation at each point. We assess every transition during the initial site visit and design the railing system so height compliance and visual continuity are maintained across all levels.
What’s the largest project Legacy Glass Railings has completed?
West 61 in West Kelowna is our largest completed project to date, featuring over 2,500 lineal feet of railing across five buildings. The project included both glass and aluminum picket systems on balconies, retaining walls, and shared corridors, all fabricated in-house at our Kelowna facility.
How far in advance should I book a railing project in the Okanagan?
For residential projects, we recommend booking four to six weeks in advance during the spring and summer building season. For commercial and multi-family projects, early coordination is essential, often three or more months ahead. Contact us early to secure your preferred installation window.
